A son's gentle touch...

As many of you know, our M has Down Syndrome.   M was definitely a challenge with no speech, not toilet trained (still isn't completely trained) and prone to very violent tantrums.   Two years ago he moved to a residential home where he has done exceptionally well.   He still presents many of these challenges, however of the two boys, he has done the best.

I made him a Log Cabin quilt for Christmas.   Here is part of an e-mail I received  from his housemom on Boxing Day,  in regards to that quilt.  I was not working yesterday morning when M opened his gift from you, but it was reported to me that he got a big smile on his face and went immediately to his room to place the quilt on his bed.   Last night when I put him to bed, he kept running his hand over it in a petting motion...so I would say he is extremely pleased!!!  As I read this my heart was so touched by this son's gentle touch.   I bawled like a baby and yet realized that he knew...he knew that his mom loved him through this quilt.

What a wonderful story, it had me welling up.

How lucky was M to find a home with you and your husband. I know it was hard work and frustrating at times, but what a lovely boy you raised,

This makes me want to cry, as well. This is the amazing gift of a quilt. They are so much more than fabric and thread....each one truly carries the blessings of one's heart and soft touch as we make them. Oh, my heart is filled with so much for you! A lovely gift, a lovely letter, and a beautiful and joyous gift!

Your quilt sent that message of love to him for sure. What a wonderful gift back to you to know that he is treasuring that quilt. I wish you a very Happy New Year!

He knows. He has always known. They all know, even when they are unable to speak it or even show it. their own unique and loving ways, that keep us ever mindful of the simple gestures of this world that tell an even bigger story.

Thank you for sharing M with us. With me. It has been a gift. A beacon as I travel with Miss Z. Early on our journey, led my the gentle touches of others.

Happy New Year faraway and faithful friend.
